All of the funniest things come from [livejournal.com profile] fleshlycherry

1) "It's the Sex!Pan Glitter Party!" she said with respect to our writing Sex Is Not The Enemy - Fic/Art/Whatever-A-Thon

2) "I support you in the two dicks one jerk thing," I said in response to us discussing bad porn in fic.

3) "I didn't think of myself as a fandom pimp until you," she said in response to my love for Inception fic.

In short, [livejournal.com profile] fleshlycherry is brilliant.

Thanks for tuning in.

Today has been a little strange, in that it's had major ups and downs.

1) I woke up this morning and realized there was no way I was going to be able to fit my experiment in between TAing (Down)

2) I did said TAing, and one of my students this year is room mates with three students I taught last year. Said students told current student that I was awesome. (Double Up)

3) I was involved in a four car accident this evening. I stopped (more sudden than I'd like, without slamming my breaks). The three cars behind me didn't. No damage to my car, but the car behind me has a loose back bumper, and the third car in line was smoking under the hood. The fourth car had no damage and drove off. I tried to, but they wanted my information. They failed to take the appropriate information, and proceeded to blame me for the accident. Because I stopped. And they didn't. Conclusion, drivers in London, ON, are idiots who can't, in fact, drive. (Double Down)

4) I found out V, my awesome Bulgarian lab mate is moving on Thursday, and tomorrow will be the last day I see her for a while. She is my closes friend in London, so it will suck (Down)

5) I played dodgeball with my lab group tonight. We're terrible. We're so terrible they need to create a third league for people of our caliber. It was a lot of fun (Up)

6) I managed to run for ten minutes straight. I can't remember the last time I was able to run for ten minutes. It was thrilling. (Up)

7) [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_santa is nearly ready to go live. I've gotten permission from a lot of the major coms to start promoting, but I'm not sure the best time to start with that. Signups will go from Oct 15 to Nov 1, but I worry that two weeks isn't enough time... Opinions? (neutral)

8) My D/C BB artist keeps sending me really awesome artwork. I'm excited beyond belief. (Up)

On a side note, I thought I would be less busy this fall, but the opposite is true. Monday and Thursday I play badminton. Tuesdays I play dodgeball. It looks like Wednesdays I'll be volunteering at a retirement home that runs an Alzheimer's outreach group, and Sundays I'm playing innertube waterpolo...

That writing I was going to do? Um... yeah... I think sleep and I are going to be going our seperate ways. Same with the little thing called free time.

On the plus side, it means that I've recovered from my mysterious vitamin deficiency (I think).

Day 14 - What is your favorite book pairing?

This is a tough one. I don't really get into books the same way I do into TV. I read a lot, but I mostly take it at face value and don't consider much beyond that. Looking back at my bookshelves, I'd have to say it was Fitz and Fool from the Farseer and Tawny Man trilogies by Robin Hobb. Granted, she refused to acknowledge the romantic and sexual relationships she'd built up between the two characters, and doesn't allow fanfiction, so it could never be explored very well outside the series. Still, I always love them, just a little bit.

Day 15 - What is your favorite real life pairing?
Day 16 - What is the absolute worst pairing?
Day 17 - A pairing you thought would never work out, but did?
Day 18 - What is the cutest pairing?
Day 19 - A pairing you've rooted for since the beginning?
Day 20 - The "can't stand the sexual tension anymore" pairing?
Day 21 - A pairing you like and no one else understands why?
Day 22 - A pairing you hate and no one else understands why?
Day 23 - A crazy love triangle/quadrilateral that worked out great?
Day 24 - A crazy love triangle/quadrilateral that worked out badly?
Day 25 - A pairing that was/would-be adorable, but could never work out?
Day 26 - A pairing that you hated and ended up loving?
Day 27 - A pairing that you loved and ended up hating?
Day 28 - A pairing that you will never understand?
Day 29 - What ship had the best proposal?
Day 30 - Your favorite ship forever and ever and ever?

I think I deserve a reward >.>

I was so very pleased with myself on Wednesday when I'd gotten myself to the 15000 word mark for the Big Bang, and I thought meeting the deadline would be easy.

Except that when I mentioned a while ago that my supervisor had a grant up for review, I may have not put the correct emphasis on the urgency of her grants.

Turns out that it's EPIC GRANT WRITING SEASON OF DOOM!!!!1! for all of the primary investigators in my research group, and it comes around every five years. On Wednesday, J sat us all down to discuss the first grant up for review, and put the fear of god into half of the lab. E, the Polish lab tech is swamped because she has to make stable cell lines for one of our protein constructs, she's the only one with access to the mice we use, and she's the resident expert on confocal microscopy in our lab. D, the Chinese lab tech is busy doing activity assays and protein work, and K, the Canadian lab tech is on vacation. Then there's S, the mother of twins who just finished her PhD, who believes she is solely responsible for competing all of the needed experiments o.O

V and I kind of laugh, because V is finished next week, and she's taking a month off to look for housing and a vehicle in Washington (DC), while I'm of the mentality that I'll do the work I have to do, and if it coincides with some fo the stuff J wants, I'll do that too. I'm not going to kill myself trying to get things done, because I've learned from experience that you end up making mistakes and falling behind.

I've got three experiments planned for before my holidays, and I can use them to look at additional proteins, so I'm not going to worry much about it.

On the Big Bang front, I submitted my draft at 11:59 pm (which is funny, even though we had until uh... today at 1pm to get it in). Word count is sitting at ~21,000, plus headers and the outline of the scenes I still need to write.

This weekend I'm going to go back to my parents place, abuse their laundry machines, go shopping at stores I actually like, then go party it up with [livejournal.com profile] fleshlycherry, [livejournal.com profile] themega5, and [livejournal.com profile] ghostj with a night of drinks, dancing, and general good times.

Then I'm going to go back into the lab on Sunday to get ready for a week of manic lab mates and experiments.

On the plus side, B12 supplements and getting back to boot camp seem to be helping. I'm feeling much more awake and functional. I had four productive, if long days in the lab this week. :)

For those of you following [livejournal.com profile] fleshlycherry's flist, you'll note that last weekend there was an epic Supernatural weekend. The purpose was three fold. We wanted to watch as much Supernatural as humanly possible in three and a half days. I needed to brush up on canon for my big bang, and we seriously needed to catch up.

Here's a recap of what happened between July 22nd and July 25th:

A Very Supernatural Weekend )

Honourable mentions should go to Bobby, for whom we drank whiskey, the whiskey sours we consumed for Sam and Dean, since we didn't want to stomach straight whiskey, the law students, for whom we stomached Canadian and straight rum, and Zachariah, who gets the worm at the bottom of the bottle of tequila we never drank.

Pumpkin Peanut Butter Cake Recipe )

Quotes worth mentioning:

1) "Because of course she did!" (refering to the Impala)
2) "Fuck [something]! Right in the face!"
3) "Salt lines; better than a locked door."
4) In Tall Tales, the professor says, "I respect you too much."
[livejournal.com profile] fleshlycherry: "What? Like God respected Becky?"
5) "Drink everytime Sam gets choked."
6) "Those are the people who just lazied themselves to death."
7) "I find this humerus."
