On the topic of the random lab drama I've been experiencing regarding my post-translational modification project, I've got some new developments that both entertain me and make me tear my hair out.

1) Aparently the girl who liedmisinterpreted my request about some data got into huge shit from her supervisor. This makes me happy and explains her sudden helpfulness with me in the lab.

2) Aparently Human Embryonic Kidney cell lines don't always express the vital enzymes required for your experiments, but because I was following the protocol of the above lab, using the exact same cells, I didn't think to check. Therefore I had no idea why none of my experiments were working. I am now armed with constructs for the appropriate enzyme, a fancy kit to purify proteins, and an even fancier kit to test out the reaction.

3) I don't get to go to San Diego for Neuroscience.

4) I likely get to go to Philidelphia for Cell Biology.

5) I really want a nap, all the time (because the project stresses me out).

6) Flobots is a surprisingly entertaining band (I realize this ahas nothing to do with the project).

On an unrelated note, my MSc supervisor is finally coming to visit to bring the final reagents we need to finish up my project with her. There is a paper in the works.

Here off the lovely fleshlycherry's recommendation (ask her to explain clown sex and the impala to you some time..or my icon..)

1) Wow, nice flashback to why I sooo don't miss labwork anymore. of course, now I get to interpret nice pharmaceutical poster abstracts, only to attend conference and find out they actually didn't do what they said they did. However, as a medical writer, soo not my problem anymore.

2) Again, I don't miss labwork. though it does remind me of the down the rabbit hole crackfic I wrote several years back about watching farscape while doing tissue culture and finding later that my cells had transformed into tiny Crichton, Dargo, and Rygel. Should dig through my journal and tag that one..

3) Final year of grad school I got to go to San Diego for conference. Fell in love with city. Must find someone to vacation with to do the city right rather than just wandering around bathing in sunlight. (7 years in philly makes april in san diego be blissful)

4) Cool. If you want restaurant recommendations, let me know.

5) *hands you chocolate and caffeine*

1) People in my lab group totally submit abstracts for these conferences without results, figuring they'll have something by the time they get there. There's a lot of sketch that goes around sometimes.

2) I think you have to be certifiably insane to actually agree to do your PhD. I went into it fully expecting to have a mental breakdown once a year o.O. Next time I might resort to crack!fic instead.

3) I really just wanted to go to San Diego for the warmth and the zoo. I planned on spending all of my free time there.

4) As for restaurants, I'll ask again if I'm going.

5) *consumes mass quantities of chocolate and caffeine* Caffeine may be protective against Alzheimer's disease *nods sagely*

P.S. Sorry about the delay in responding. This weekend has been the weekend of birthday and bachelorettes, which [ profile] fleshlycherry helped rescure big time. I asked her about clown sex and the impala and she just laughed.
