I took this fandom meme from [livejournal.com profile] larantula. I did it in the lab instead of going home, because I'm awesome like that.

If last week was marked by season permieres and good lab results, this week was marked by a lack of sleep, bad writing and good lab results.

I'll take one out of three. My supervisor is happy with me.

But seriously, if I have to put up with much more bad writing, I'm going to end up doing something drastic. I know I'm not great, but I at least have a good grasp on grammar and verb tense...

And, since this post can't be entirely bad, here's some more of that meme I keep forgetting about.

Day 15 - What is your favorite real life pairing?

I'm going to go with an unusual response and say Misha Collins and his wife Victoria. I heard rumours that she's the one responsible for the questionable awesome photos Misha posts on twitter. I just feel like they have a really fun relationship.

Day 16 - What is the absolute worst pairing?

I could put together quite the list here, but I'll focus on the word absolute to narrow it down. I actually had to think about it for longer than I expected. Arthur/Gwen wins, because they seem so forced by the writers. There are a lot of pairings I dislike, but I can actually see how it happens. With Arthur and Gwen I feel like the writers thought "Crap! There was supposed to be some sort of romance between Arthur and Gwen. We've been pandering to the Arthur/Merlin fans so much we forgot. Maybe if we throw it in now, they'll forget about that, and we can get back to Arthurian legend." Except that Merlin is the biggest bastardization of Arthurian legend I've ever seen, so it comes out ass backwards.

Day 17 - A pairing you thought would never work out, but did?

Rose and the Doctor. I thought that Rose and nine were very platonic, but that Rose and Ten would never quite get that chemistry back. I finally caved and watched season two of Dr. Who after watching Torchwood (because I wanted more, but didn't want to see CoE quite yet), and I was pleasently surprised. I might be one of the few people who actually really liked Rose/Alternate!Ten. It's pretty much the only way they could be happy together.

Day 18 - What is the cutest pairing?

Mikey and Martha, or Tosh and Owen. I was a little giddy with the first, and really sad that the second never happened in canon.

Today has been a little strange, in that it's had major ups and downs.

1) I woke up this morning and realized there was no way I was going to be able to fit my experiment in between TAing (Down)

2) I did said TAing, and one of my students this year is room mates with three students I taught last year. Said students told current student that I was awesome. (Double Up)

3) I was involved in a four car accident this evening. I stopped (more sudden than I'd like, without slamming my breaks). The three cars behind me didn't. No damage to my car, but the car behind me has a loose back bumper, and the third car in line was smoking under the hood. The fourth car had no damage and drove off. I tried to, but they wanted my information. They failed to take the appropriate information, and proceeded to blame me for the accident. Because I stopped. And they didn't. Conclusion, drivers in London, ON, are idiots who can't, in fact, drive. (Double Down)

4) I found out V, my awesome Bulgarian lab mate is moving on Thursday, and tomorrow will be the last day I see her for a while. She is my closes friend in London, so it will suck (Down)

5) I played dodgeball with my lab group tonight. We're terrible. We're so terrible they need to create a third league for people of our caliber. It was a lot of fun (Up)

6) I managed to run for ten minutes straight. I can't remember the last time I was able to run for ten minutes. It was thrilling. (Up)

7) [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_santa is nearly ready to go live. I've gotten permission from a lot of the major coms to start promoting, but I'm not sure the best time to start with that. Signups will go from Oct 15 to Nov 1, but I worry that two weeks isn't enough time... Opinions? (neutral)

8) My D/C BB artist keeps sending me really awesome artwork. I'm excited beyond belief. (Up)

On a side note, I thought I would be less busy this fall, but the opposite is true. Monday and Thursday I play badminton. Tuesdays I play dodgeball. It looks like Wednesdays I'll be volunteering at a retirement home that runs an Alzheimer's outreach group, and Sundays I'm playing innertube waterpolo...

That writing I was going to do? Um... yeah... I think sleep and I are going to be going our seperate ways. Same with the little thing called free time.

On the plus side, it means that I've recovered from my mysterious vitamin deficiency (I think).

Day 14 - What is your favorite book pairing?

This is a tough one. I don't really get into books the same way I do into TV. I read a lot, but I mostly take it at face value and don't consider much beyond that. Looking back at my bookshelves, I'd have to say it was Fitz and Fool from the Farseer and Tawny Man trilogies by Robin Hobb. Granted, she refused to acknowledge the romantic and sexual relationships she'd built up between the two characters, and doesn't allow fanfiction, so it could never be explored very well outside the series. Still, I always love them, just a little bit.

Day 23 - A crazy love triangle/quadrilateral that worked out great?

I've been going crossed eyed for the last two hours playing in photoshop to make rudimentary banners and staring at source code to figure out how to make all the fancy links and formatting you usually see in communities.

But it was mostly successful! Click on the banner to see how [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_santa is shaping up so far.

If anyone wants to help out, let me know ;) I've had a few volunteers so far.

Also,

Day 13 - What is your favorite television pairing?

You mean we weren't supposed to be focusing on television pairings before? Like I said already, I ship Dean/Castiel hard core at the moment, with Jack/Ianto coming in a close second. Aside from those, of actual canon pairings, I'd have to say Rose and the Doctor. He means the world to her, and she helped him be a little bit more compassionate.

WHY!!!?!

I'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me why I'm so crazy. As if signing up for challenges wasn't enough, I've created [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_santa. I wanted to do a Torchwood holiday gift exchange, and realized there wasn't one. So I've made it. I'll get around to pimping it this week...

[livejournal.com profile] bloodredmoon1 offered to help me moderate.

On a side note, because I keep forgetting:

Day 09 - The most believable relationship?

Erik/Sookie in Trueblood. The relationship isn't forced, or ridiculously co-dependent. It's just two people who are attracted to one another, and use one another, and who may or may not have actual feelings for one another.

Day 10 - Why aren't these two married in real life?

Are we talking actors? I actually don't follow real people all that much (with the exception of Misha Collins, because that man is hilarious), and he's already married. It's not actually something that's ever crossed my mind.

Day 11 - What is your dream pairing?

Most of these pairings happen in my dreams... or was that TMI? Actually, I think Derek/Penelope would be brilliant. I would be happy forever if it happened in canon.

Day 12 - Who had the best wedding?

I don't really like this question. I don't think weddings are necessary to have a good ship. I honestly can't think of a wedding that was awesome, either...

So, in addition to watching Children of Earth last night, I just mowed my way through the last Doctor Who specials with David Tennant. And to top it off, Supernatural season finale, where apparently someone is going to die (again).

I may or may not be a glutton for punishment.

On the plus side, lots of fic ideas. I'm going to decide after this SPN episode whether or not I want to do the BigBang, because I've got an idea that may or may not work.

dosciencetoit: (Ianto)

I finally forced myself to watch Children of Earth. I did it over the last five hours.

I think I'm going to go cry myself to sleep now.

Right this moment, there are several things I should be doing, and the reasons why I'm not doing them.

1) I should be paying more attention to the microscope scans going on, in case the image goes out of focus --> There's only so long I can watch the computer take 2.5mins to scan an image, and it's really hard to tell if it's gone out of focus.

2) I should be reading over the Physiology notes so I'll be ready to put together a tutorial for tomorrow afternoon. --> PLEASE, OH GOD PLEASE LET THIS COURSE BE OVER!!!

3) I should be digesting PCR product so I can ligate it into a new vector and transform bacteria so that I have awesome myc-tagged proteins --> I'm on the microscope and need to be watching it scan incase it goes out of focus.

4) Writing [livejournal.com profile] reel_torchwood fics --> I'm supposed to be doing lab work.

5) Feeding cells --> I'm on the microscope...

So instead of doing any of these things, although I am sitting in the room with the microscope, occasionally checking to see if the image is still in focus (looks good right now), I'm on LJ, compulsively checking to see if people have updated fun things to read. There should be more, because I recently got into [livejournal.com profile] deancastiel, but I aparently read more than people update...

And now the image is out of focuse, so I wil pause the scan, start the timer, re-focus the microscope, and repeat.

This may be why I spent most of yesterday morning on the verge of a panic attack, nearly in tears... Despite the fact that my life doesn't suck, it's really not that great at the moment >.>

I'm thinking things will greatly improve once I've got the flight confirmation for Brazil, so that I can get the Visa, so that I can be certain I'm actually going.

dosciencetoit: (Default)

So I've learned some fun things this week.

1) Never trust things from another lab. ALWAYS verify that it's what you expect it to be. They both lie, and have no idea what they're talking about.

2) Campus is so much better when there are no students. The traffic lights change faster, there are no crowds to weave through, no lines for coffee, no undergrads using the culture hoods when you need them, and not as many people at trivia, meaning we place in rounds some times.

3) My cousin and her husband are awesome, and really fun. Went out for dinner with them and my great aunt, then watched olympics with them (not the hockey, though, because I was afraid of seeing Canada loose to the US).

4)I really need to plan my time better.

In an effort to make better use of my time, here's what the next few weeks will look like:

A) I'm starting a jogging program. Four days a week, which gets me my four workouts for the fitness challenge I'm doing with my friend. I can run 5 minutes straight right now, which is pitiful, and I'm hoping at the end of 6 weeks I'll be able to go for 30 minutes straight.

B) Working from 8:30 - 4:30, so that I'm not stuck in the lab until 7:30pm. I'm going to focus on confocal microscopy until I have the issues from the other labs supplies sorted out. On the plus side, both seem to finally be working. Changed the conditions and saw a single band on my western blot, meaning I've probably found SUMO, and hydrogen peroxide is affecting my protein's distribution in cells :)

C) Working on the game [livejournal.com profile] themega5 and I are running for Gryphcon this year, and making the costumes for the LARP. Spent 50$ on fabric, and have the paterns to make formal Chinese Han robes. Crab people

D) Writing a chapter a day. I've got a lot of things to write up now. I still need to finish my Merlin drabble series. I've also claimed two movies for [livejournal.com profile] reel_torchwood: Willow and Fifth Element. I'm writing the Willow one right now, and it's actually turning out better than I hoped. Going to do Fifth Element next, then finish the drabble series. Once that's done, I'll likely work in earnest on the Torchwood epic I've got in my head. Looks like it's going to be three or four parts. Then back to the AU Merlin series I started over Christmas.

I'm also giving up stuff (belatedly) for Lent, because I forgot it had started. Giving up pop, alcohol, and baked goods. Means no more of my mom's delicious breakfast foods when I go home, but it's likely worth it.

I've bought a bottle of Reisling to enjoy once Lent is over.

dosciencetoit: (Ianto)
I've been dreaming up an epic Torchwood fanfic arch, that's managing to reach its tenticles into just about every idea I've got now. In the process of writing some of it, this drabble popped into mind.

Title: The Appeal of Suits
Rating: Soft R
Warnings: None
Spoilers: None
Word Count: 100
Summary: Jack tells Ianto why he likes a man in a suit.

You’re doing a poor job imagining it. )

dosciencetoit: (Default)

I may have developed a second OTP, thanks to my very awesome, very Brittish friend. The same friend, in fact, who confirmed my love for Merlin. I'm going to have to divide my time between writing Merlin and Torchwood fanfic now.

The change in the banner is to reflect this.

dosciencetoit: (Default)

I've got a bit of a plot running through my head for a Torchwood fic I said I'd write my friend, but I can't bring myself to watch CoE, so I don't feel comfortable starting anything.

Instead, I think I'm going to go out and buy myself a beagle puppy and name it Ianto.

Does this make me a bad person?
